CASA's Community Program, La Clase Magica

La Clase Magica bridges the University and Community by training undergraduates to participate as mentors and educational guides in five afterschool centers in San Diego County.
Through a course at the University of California, San Diego, students learn about theories of education that they then are able to practice with their interactions with the children. These college-age "amigos" also serve as mentors and give the children encouragement toward their academic success.
The children and undergrads work together to problem solve and have fun using computer games, culturally relevant curriculum taskcards, and activities that lead to a quarter long digital project using cameras and multimedia to produce a video production by the kids!
