Mario A. Chacon

Mario A. Chacon is an artist of deep spiritual and cultural orientation. His Native American Ceremonial life provides the underpinnings for much of his work, and the socio-political issues that spawned the “Chicano Movement” of the late sixties and seventies factor prominently in his artistic development. Nearly 40 years later these same issues remain at the heart of his beloved people's struggle and compel him to continue to create.
Born in the East Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights with roots in El Paso, Texas and the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua, Chacon strives to weave a balance of street wisdom, indigenous spirituality, and a healthy sense of humor into his artistic endeavors.
Chacon has exhibited his work throughout the southwestern United States. His recent artistic collaboration with reknown muralist, Victor Ochoa can be viewed at San Diego’s Chicano Park Murals - Hasta La Bahia. His most recent murals entitled, Concientizacion can be viewed at Southwest Middle School, located in the Nestor community of San Diego.
Mario A. Chacon’s art blends reality and imagination to reflect the nuances of Chicano, Border, and Native American cultures, stimulate thoughtful creative action, and promote exploration of innovative solutions to social problems.
