Maria Nieto Senour

"Art has been a part of my consciousness since a very young age. I trained in college as an arts teacher and developed basic skills for communicating my ideas and emotions. I have done that in a variety of media over the years but have recently focused on painting.
What inspires me: I love beauty, color, surprises and spontaneity, the interaction between the medium and me. The world in which we live is so beautiful and colorful that I believe we have an ethical responsibility to not only preserve it's beauty, but to add to it. Nothing is more beautiful than flowers and these flowers seem full of joy and life.
I also love magic. Latin American Magical Realism speaks to me and I want to create something like that in this medium: half real, half fantasy. The poppies are floating, the irises seem to be a hiding place for fireflies (talk about magic) and in each case the flowers are stronger than their stems- like women, perhaps?"
